Spanish Air Force 43 Group, which specialises in water bombing forest fires, is flying in Portugal. Canadaair CL215 and Bombardier 415 waterbomber seaplanes are throwing the water on the burning forest 100 miles away from Lisbon.

Every hour, several seaplane flights over the forest fire.

More than 350 soldiers and about 1,600 firefighters were battling to put out the blaze, which has spread into five distinct fires. The European Union was sending firefighting aircraft, with France offering their own planes as well.
